I was reading so much at the beginning of the year but that has definitely dropped off since I've started falling asleep too early at night to read before bed. I picked up a few new books at the library to add to my (very diverse) pile. Have you read anything good recently?

I played around a little this weekend with tiny pouches, great for lip gloss, coins, or whatever other little things usually float around in the bottom of your bag. These are only about 4" long. I have a few improvements to make when I try again!

When it starts to get cold outside the puppy gets especially cuddly. And I think he just might know how cute he is.

My love of owls is well-documented, but maybe not as well-documented - my love of Target and stationery. So in the true spirit of
simple pleasures, can I just share how much it made my day to find these adorable owl notecards at Target today?

I have bemoaned my long to do list on here often enough, so what do I do? Start a project not on my list. We decided to relax and watch a movie last night so I got out my beads and started another necklace. Oh well, I have this weekend to get back on track!

I love getting mail. I am getting a start on some Christmas shopping and it is fun to see the packages pile up. I might have sneaked one or two things in there for me but for the most part I'm behaving!

I am so excited to have a quiet night at home, handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Maybe we'll watch a scary movie. But not too scary. I hope everyone is having a fun, safe, and candy-filled Halloween!

I think this is by far the earliest I have started on any Christmas sewing, which feels fantastic. I saw something in California that gave me a great idea for the ladies on my list and I just had to get started!
(Sorry for disappearing! I flew home from San Fran on the red eye Tuesday night, spent Wednesday night unpacking and sleeping, then had a volleyball double header last night! I'm glad things are quieter for the weekend...)

I saw
this great idea for center pull balls of yarn on
whipup and thought I would get ready to start some more knitting. I love the simple task of sitting and winding yarn. Well, I love it until I get my yarn into a big tangled mess. We'll just forget about that part...
(I am heading off to San Francisco in an hour and am so excited! But it will be quiet here for a few days... I'll be back on Wednesday! Have a great weekend!)

My first experience with meringue frosting on a cupcake. I love the way it looks!
Quilt is quilted, label is on, cupcakes are baked, favors are ready. I'll just hand sew the binding until the last minute and cross my fingers I finish! Honestly I'm surprised I made it this far...

I really love the quilting process, especially when it goes so smoothly.
(Yes, it's another quilt tease. I promise I'll show the whole thing soon.)
I think I'm in over my head getting this quilt done in time for the 11am baby shower tomorrow, including hand sewing the binding, adding a label, making the shower favors, and making the cupcakes. Yikes! Wish me luck...

After nearly five years in this house we finally updated the light fixture in the powder room. That's one down, three to go! Amazing how such a small change made me like this little bathroom so much more.
52 Nights Update - Night 31 - I was on a plane last evening to Blacksburg, Virginia, to recruit at Virigina Tech, so I don't think that counts towards the challenge! I'll make up for it, though - I've got to get my
latest project quilted and bound in two nights plus get ready to host a baby shower Saturday morning, so I'll have more no tech nights this week just trying to get it all done!

This was the craziest weekend I've had in a while. I am so proud though - yesterday between church in the morning and taking my mother-in-law out for a belated birthday dinner, I made a complete quilt top from first cut of the fabric to final press with the iron. I've never done that before! (Sorry for the tease again,
AmandaJean - I'll show the whole thing when I get it quilted!)

I think I'm obsessed with felt and the blanket stitch. This is the project I've been stitching on at night. It's nice to have something pretty to look forward to when I pay the bills!

I woke up this morning to temps under 70F. What a treat. Tonight it's supposed to get down to 60! I always look forward that first cool evening of the fall after our hot summers. How lucky that it has come so early this year!
Thank you all SO much for the comments on the quilt and my anniversary. It was so hard to put that quilt in the mail! And I am really looking forward to the next year, I hope you all stay to share it with me.
52 Nights Update - Night 30 - In addition to making the tag for the
quilt (which I forgot to photograph, dang it!), I popped over to the gym for yoga only to find no one else there - the instructor had canceled the class with the regulars but not bothered to notify the gym. And I was so proud for getting over there for the first time in weeks! Maybe next time...

I had a baby shower to go to yesterday and limited time to make a gift, so I fell back on one of my favorites - a taggie blankie, and some goodies to go with it.

Today was casual Friday (funny since in my office many of us wear jeans all week) and I wore my new purple shoes, and am now enjoying a gorgeous evening. It is unseasonably cool for September on the Gulf Coast!

I started a new felt project this week... It's nice to have some hand sewing to keep me company during the fall season premieres!

Fresh flowers arrived back in our grocery store, and I am really enjoying the fall colors. The sweet kitty lounging nearby helps, too.

It was so nice last week to have time during the day to craft, take pictures with good lighting, compose blog posts... But now that I'm back at work I'm finding it harder to post here. The evenings are getting darker earlier, taking away my photo time, and I'd rather spend my free time crafting than writing.
This blog was never intended to be stressful, and in the past when times have arisen where I struggle to post I have just disappeared for a while. I don't want that to happen this time. Instead, for the next month, I am going to try to post regularly, but with shorter posts, sharing some of the simple pleasures I encounter that keep me going.

For example, opening a mystery package from
Amazon and discovering
this book. I pre-ordered it ages ago, and with the hurricane and new kitten and general busy-ness, I'd forgotten it was on its way. I did a little happy dance when I opened it. Now it is waiting for me when it is finally bedtime!
I made a little "Simple Pleasures" button if you want to join me (once, weekly, daily, whatever!) sharing simple pleasures of your own! Download it over there to the right.
52 Nights Update - Night 29 - Last night was a miserable failure from a no tech standpoint. I did get the laundry done, and started a little felt project, but I also got sucked into the
Family Guy episode that
recreates Star Wars. I was powerless to resist.
